Hi

I need to label every equation i do in number order.

And have stumbled across this numberwithin.

How do i use this and what do i need to put in my preamble?

With \numberwithin you could tie equation numbering to section or even subsection numbering and alike. Normally equation are numbered per chapter.

You can call it for example this way, in the preamble:
