LyX ⇒ Embedding/viewing SVG graphics in Lyx

I can insert SVG graphics into a Lyx document, and it comes out fine in the pdf output. However, it is NOT shown in the Lyx file-- instead I see a black rectangle. What is wrong?
Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit); Lyx 1.6.8. Inkscape is installed.

Would be nice if you provide an example .lyx file and an example .svg files for testing purposes.

I'd be glad to provide an example of a Lyx file with some SVG graphics, but how do I do it here?

Just put files into a ZIP archive and attach it as usual.
