MiKTeX and proTeXt ⇒ MiKTeX 2.9 — Windows API error 234

Hello!

I have recently updated my LaTeX system to MiKTeX 2.9, but I have found that it is not able to "Setting" and "update" anymore because of this Windows API error 234.

Does anyone encounter the same error before ? I also logged in as administrator and yet it still did not work.

I am having a problem with updating MiKTeX to 2.9 (from 2.7) for use with TeXNicCenter. I used the TeXNicCenter wizard to define output profiles for DVI, PDF, and PS. Now when I try to get compile and view any kind of output, the output log says "I couldn't open file name 'filename.aux' Couldn't find input index file <filename> nor <filename.idx>". Sure enough, there are no files created in the directory that contains my .tex file. Obviously there's something basic going wrong!

I would appreciate any help.
