LyX ⇒ How come templates like svmono_book.lyx don't work?

According to the website:
"LyX is for people who want their writing to look great, right out of the box. No more endless tinkering...."
So how come "right out of the box" this template (and others) gets the error
that the "Document class is not available" "The layout file requested by this document ..."

Seems like the "endless tinkering" has begun. Why, oh, why would you provide templates in the distro that don't work "right out of the box"?
