BibTeX, biblatex and biber ⇒ Italicize the letter appended to year

Hello all:

I have what seems like a straightforward problem, but I can't figure out a solution for the life of me. When I have multiple entries for an author and year, a letter is appended to the year as per usual, e.g., Smith et al. (2010a). I am required to italicize the appended letter, that is, Smith et al. (2010a). How would I achieve this? I can post the relevant portions of my .bst file, if that helps.
