I forgot to mention that I am using TexStudio 2.11.0 with Miktex 2.9 in Window 10. Should I migrate to Tex Live 2016?

Hi Casey,

welcome to the forum!

In that case, complete your MiKTeX installation, or add at least the xstring package with the MiKTeX package manager. Or get it from CTAN: xstring. By the way, I prefer TeX Live too, but I won't try to convince you to migrate - until there's a serious issue with MiKTeX.

Thx for your guidaance. May I know , after I downloaded the Ctan's xstring zip file, where should I unzip the files in the MikTex directory. Which folder should it be?? Thx again!

Under a .../tex/latex/xstring/ folder, then run MikTeX settings with a click on "Refresh FNDB". Or simply put the file(s) (.sty extension) right into your document folder.

I managed to use the miktex package manager. All done and ok now. Thx for your help.
