Hi there
As an example, I want write several propositions, one after the other, with no text in between, such that each is uniquely labelled. I used to be able to do this by inserting a separator - line-break. With 2.2.2, One can't do this anymore, a Ctrl-return doesn't do the job. Thanks for the help.
LyX ⇒ line break 2.2.2

line break 2.2.2
Go to edit > Start New Environment (Proposition), or do alt + p, return
I know it is a big change to get used to, but a lot of thought was put into it and it really is a step forward to not need to manually insert a separator. But it takes some time to get used to.
If you really want to manually insert a separator, you can use the LFUN separator-insert. Look for information on LyX's minibuffer or command buffer for how to insert that command. You can make a shortcut to also. But again, it shouldn't be needed.
