Hello everybody,

As mentioned in the title, I'm a new latex user and this is my first message on this forum. I've familiarised myself with latex thanks to youtube tutorials. I'm starting my first real document, which is a report on space filling designs and their use in chemistry. So far I never had a problem with latex, but I've been struggling for the last hour and a half with my bibliography. For some reason only the first reference in the bibliography file is accepted, and the others are called "undefined" when I compile my document file (I use texmaker by the way, not that it should make any difference I guess).

The name of my bibliography file is references.bib, and it is in the same folder as the document file. I'd appreciate any help I can get considering that I've been tweaking things and looking for what's wrong for the last hour and a half, and so far have found nothing. Thanks in advance,

\section{Introduction}
When scientists and engineers are exposed to an unknown chemical system, one of the most important step to take in its characterisation is the determination of the degree of influence of different parameters on this system. At this early stage of the study of the new system, elaborated guess have to be made as to which parameters may or may not have an impact on it. This process can be achieved through comparison with other systems that share similarities or through reasoning, using physical and chemical knowledge.

Once the set of parameters that might influence the system has been established, the next stage is to run experiments, collect the data and analyse it in order to determine the degree of influence of each of those parameters. Depending on the system under study, one experimental point can be quite expensive, and often the number of experimental points are fairly low due to limited resources, be it time, human resources or money. For this reason, experimental points can't afford to be chosen at random. This would require a greater number of points than necessary to characterise the system.[b]\cite{anbar2010development}[/b]

Instead, so-called "designs of experiment" have been created for more than two centuries. Theses designs of experiment allow the study of the outcome of an experiment as a function of the variation of the parameters of the system. Several methods exist, and each of them has a different algorithm. In the last decade, a type of design of experiment called "space filling design" (SFD) has seen significant improvements and the appearance of new, more effective algorithms. The reasons behind this improvement is that theses algorithms are particularly useful in the field of computing. The influence of the variation of variables on the output of algorithms that involve a high number of variables can be studied while also saving a great deal of time. Even though most of the progress that has affected space filling designs comes because of a need in the computational field, other fields can benefit greatly from the use of such designs of experiment.[b]\cite{santiago2012construction}[/b]

In the fields of chemical engineering and chemistry in general, using a space filling designs is a good strategy when it comes down to studying a system that is relatively or completely unknown. They provide a coverage of the whole design space (cf. figure X) and thus are the designs of experiment that bring the most information as to the influence of the variation of each parameter on the behaviour of the system.

\subsection{Introduction to the methodology of space filling designs}
All space filling designs are made from the same base. The ground concept is to fill the design space (cf. figure X) with candidate points, and then to remove points one after another following certain criteria until either the number of wanted points remain or the algorithm's end condition has been reached (this depends on the type of SFD). 

The generation of these points can be done using different types of distributions. The choice of the distribution can have an inconstant degree of impact depending on the chosen algorithm for the SFD. Some or not affected at all by the chosen distribution, whereas others show differences in their properties depending on the initial distribution.

Welcome, your eaxmple works fine. I guess you simply forgot to call BibTeX. Read more about it and how to do it in Question mark instead of citation number
