Y&Y TeX

Post by mattgeiger »

Hello,
We have been using Y&Y version of TeX for many years even still all these years later.
We are looking for a version of TeX that is newer and has similar features that Y&Y was known for.
Biggest example is the Font Handling and the Measurement on screen tools.

Does anyone have any Suggestions?

Thank you
Matt

Y&Y TeX

Post by Johannes_B »

Hi and welcome,

I never heard of Y&Y before, but i was told that it was a pretty nice system. I have to say, that there currently is nothing comparable. XeTeX and LuaTeX can handle OpenType fonts, but no system provides the interactive previewer.
But i have some good news: The source is open, you can amend it to your current needs. Maybe even become the official maintainer and make Y&Y widespread to a larger community.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.
