Interface Scaling - Please assist

Post by Sokar408 »

On recommendation by a friend, I'm trying to get LyX working on my study system (Windows Surface Pro 4)

However due to its small monitor, coupled with very large natural resolution, the GUI of LyX wouldn't be usable by a hawk. Icons on the interface is about half the size of my mouse pointer, making it practically useless. Needless to say I have failed to find a solution on my own so here I am asking; How can I increase the size of the GUI or make it scale with Windows 10's natural scaling settings.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome,

unfortunately i cannot help you with your LyX issue, because i am not a LyX user. I don't even know your OS.

Nevermind, in order to use LyX, you need a bit of LaTeX knowledge. I can recommend LaTeX for complete novices.
If your friend told you that LyX is a great tool and you don't even need to know LaTeX, ... he is wrong :-( Many many heard that and use LyX and get frustrated because they have no clue what is going on.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

I know about LaTeX. I don't have a problem using it, I have a problem with the GUI being too small to visible see, and as far as I know, being able to write and format as I wish the program itself, doesn't have anything to do with recoding the interface (which I presume is necessary, considering there isn't any obvious option for it under GUI options). Also I'm on windows. My apologies for not point that out.

I actually have this issue with just about all LaTeX based programs.

If you are not using LyX 2.2.1, please first try that. There have been many improvements regarding this type of thing.

If you are using it, you can try scaling the icons manually. Just right-click on an icon and you can choose the size (which affects all icons). Does that work?

Glad it worked. We don't have many LyX users testing on Windows Surface Pro. Any feedback or suggestions you have to improve things would be appreciated. If you are up for it, feel free to join our mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org or post bugs and enhancement requests at http://www.lyx.org/trac
