Generating slides and article from the same source?

Post by pfroehlich »

Hi,

am starting as professor and need to prepare my lectures. I'd like to publish a script and present slides during class. Therefore I want to generate both from the same source:

- when I compile to slides make full format slides for presentation
- when I compile to article make a paper that integrates the slides as pictures in a smaller format.

I am not new to LaTeX but my knowledge is >10years old. I am overwhelmed by the number of classes (e.g. seminar, prosper, powerdot etc.) for making slides and can't tell which will do the right job for me. The domain is engineering, so the typical mixture of graphics, math etc. but nothing really special.

Any advice from someone who has more recent experiences than I would be extremley welcome (my students will be gratefull, too :) ) Thanks a lot!

Regards
Peter

Generating slides and article from the same source?

Take a look at the beamer class. It allows to compile the source in different modes. One of them is the handout mode. The documentation of this class is very extensive and explains everything in detail. In case of further upcoming questions, feel free to ask.

Best regards and welcome to the board
