I made the mistake of "upgrading" my Mac Mini's OS from 10.10.5 to 10.11.4. This, as I assume you know, destroyed my existing TexShop (about 5 years old). I downloaded the latest TexShop, but that did not help. I then downloaded a new Basic Tex. Both are installed, but apparently the Basic Tex is not where TexShop is looking for it because it still does not work.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. If offering assistance, please be aware that I am more of a computer user than I am a computer guru, so you may have to explain things in greater detail than you might expect.

Welcome to the forum!
I suggest to install MacTeX. It's big, but having all can avoid headaches later.
