LyX: integrating Slides and Notes?
So for a given chapter; page 1 might have a slide with notes underneath followed by pages 2 and 3 which contain only additional notes. This format would be repeated throughout the chapter finishing with notes on practicals and their solutions, and so on for each chapter. Obviously the manuals would also contain T.O.C and Indexes etc.
I posted a question on stackexchange and got a reply:
http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/ ... -using-lyx
This is very close to what I want to achieve and looks quite simply from a code point of view but I couldn't get it to work. Some of the options were 'greyed out' in LyX; Document/Settings.
Plus I couldn't follow what exactly I was supposed to be pasting or where?
When I pasted the example latex into the preamble I got the exact same sample slide. This is somewhat closer to achieving what I want but doesn't actually help me produce the document with repeated interweaving of slides and notes.
Similar issues seem to be answered with the standard suggestion of using a pure LateX editor instead of LyX. However, if I switch to a pure latex editor I believe I will loose all of the great outline and document management capabilities of LyX, which are at least as important to me as the type setting capabilities of LaTeX. After all nobody writes a large document (technical or creative) as a stream of consciousness (unless that's their literary genre).
To date I have used MS Word to produce the text draft, mainly because of it's Outline capabilities. I then add graphics and move the material into Power Point or Impress to produce the slide elements, utilizing what they call 'notes view'. I then go through a final iterative process of fine adjustments and PDF production until I achieve the final print images. If I switched to a pure Latex Editor I would still need to use Word to organize and structure of the initial document.
I realize I'm asking a lot in wanting a single tool to provide:
1) Great outlining and document management capabilities.
2) Great slide production capabilities
3) Notes and slide integration capabilities
4) Excellent typesetting capabilities.
However I already know Lyx/Latex can do 1, 2 and 4.
From the StackExchange posting I can see that Latex can do 3
All I need now is to get 3 to work in LyX and I will finally be set free from the mind numbing tedium and frustration I have periodically endured over the past 10 years.
I'm new to Lyx and LaTeX. I have read the basic LyX manual. I've 'looked' at Beamer and have tried embedding a presentation within an article. However the latter printed just the notes and not the slides. I came across 'Branches' which sound very useful but I can only get them to add very basic text notes eg to make a paragraph appear or disappear. Whereas I want the printed document to contain a whole series of note pages which don't appear in the slide show. I've also heard of KOMA-Script and don't know if I should use Beamer or Koma (I'm in the UK and use A4).
Any advice gratefully received.
