Hello everyone. I follow the instructions of the LyX 2.1.4 bundled installer to install LyX on my Win XP PC for the first time. But every time I launch LyX an window appears telling me that “no text class found” and the reconfiguration always fails. I also tried to use the installation version to reinstall LyX only but the problem is still there.
I'm quite sure that the installation of MiKTeX as well as the specified path in LyX are complete and correct since afterwards I tried to install LyX 2.0.0 on the same PC (without reinstalling MiKTeX and removing LyX 2.1.4) and it works correctly. Actually the attached document is typeset with LyX 2.0.0 on my PC where LyX 2.1.4 fails. The same issue also takes place on my Win 7 64 bit laptop when I try to update LyX from 2.0 to 2.1.

I'm sorry you're having this issue. It sounds very frustrating! I've seen similar issues, but I've never had them myself on Ubuntu so I'm not going to be of much help. I suggest trying the instructions here:

If that doesn't work, consider writing an email to lyx-users@lists.lyx.org. Also note that LyX 2.2.0 will be out soon (perhaps in a month) and you might want to see if that works for you.

Hi scottkosty. Thanks for your reply. It sounds to me that you suggest me to reinstall both MiKTeX and LyX by removing them completely in advance. I guess that might not work in my case since I was installing both of them on a clean PC. Maybe I would keep using 2.0.0 (maybe old but at least it works just fine) and wait for 2.2.0.
