I have never seen this on Ubuntu, but we have had several reports of this on the lyx-users mailing list. Hopefully a solution is found soon.

I have the same problem as the one showed in the video.
I tried an older version like 2.1.3 and the menus were working normally (however, I have note been able to compile any document since I got an error message about a tmp directory not being there...).
Has anybody found a solution? I am using version 2.1.4 on El Capitan 10.11.1.

It will be fixed for LyX 2.2.0. If you like to live dangerously (and I mean this seriously) and/or you would like to help us improve the LyX 2.2.0, we would be interested in your feedback if you want to test LyX 2.2.0alpha2 which was just released. You can download it here:
