I would like to use "apalike" reference style in my thesis. I use "\bibliographystyle{apalike}" but nothing changes and citations are still like [5]. I try to remove "numbers" from \usepackage[square, numbers, comma, sort&compress]{natbib}, then it errs that "Package natbib Error: Bibliography not compatible with author-year citations." Any suggestions?
You need to load package apalike as well. I would suggest to use the modern package biblatex along with biber; a dedicated apa style is available through package biblatex-apa.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.
Thanks Johannes_B for your clear response. Can you elaborate more on that? The link of the apalike package is broken. Do you know any other link? In case I succeed to download the package, where I should I put it? Is it the same story for the newer package? What other changes do I need to make in my LateX code? Thank you.
