Working with templates

Post by dr_gilermo »

Hi all,

I am very new to LyX. I'm writing my thesis using this editor, and could not find an answer to my question online:
I have downloaded the template available here:
https://code.google.com/p/classicthesis ... p&can=2&q=

However, I don't understand which file should be used as the "main script" for compilation, exporting PDF, etc. I have tried to edit each chapter separately but could not export any PDF files.

What should I do?

Thanks

Recommended reading 2024:

LaTeXguide.org • LaTeX-Cookbook.net • TikZ.org

NEW: TikZ book now 40% off at Amazon.com for a short time.

And: Currently, Packt sells ebooks for $4.99 each if you buy 5 of their over 1000 ebooks. If you choose only a single one, $9.99. How about combining 3 LaTeX books with Python, gnuplot, mathplotlib, Matlab, ChatGPT or other AI books? Epub and PDF. Bundle (3 books, add more for higher discount): https://packt.link/MDH5p

I can't seem to find the files you're talking about but it sounds like you've got a bunch of templates - probably a cover page, some indexes/tables-of-contents, some chapters, maybe some figures, and a bibliography? Edit each one as a separate LyX file. Document>View each one and Save As all of them from in your PDF viewer, placing all the saved copies in the same folder somewhere. Now take whichever one is first (probably your Title Page) and save the LyX file to the same folder. Then to that LyX file, use the Insert>File>Child Document to add each of the PDFs in order. Then Document>View that document to PDF. You can keep making changes to the parts, just remember to Save As in the PDF viewer and overwrite the correct PDF file for that part, then View the Title Page document again and re-Save As to update the full copy.
