My name is Katarina and I'm a PhD student from Denmark. I am writing my first scientific paper in LaTeX and find the environment intriguing and look forward to get more familiar with it...
I do struggle with some basic problems which is why I now join the LaTeX Community.

Hi and welcome,
great that you decided to go for LaTeX. Many people have problems with the basic, it seems to be the nature of LaTeX. You can solve those basic issues by reading some introductory material, i would suggest to read LaTeX for complete novices.
Many people don't want to hear it, but LaTeX needs some effort to start with as well. If you want to sit in the control room of a nuclear power plant, you need to know some basics. Same for driving a car or getting a diploma. This is even true for working with micorsoft office products like word or excel.
I am sure, that once you spend one or two days in the very basics, the whole rest will be quite easy. ;-)

I am more than willing to put an effort in making LaTeX work for me - and reading 'the not so short..' as well as 'LaTeX for complete novices' and posts in this forum and at Stack Exchange has helped me a lot.
Right now I'm at a dead end and have been stocked here for two days though
. I need to make a long table in landscape style and have borrowed a paper from a colleague written in LaTeX to see what he has done.
But I just can't get it to work when I copy-paste usepackages and commands to my own document. I have searched fora and books for answers but haven't found any.
I have even made a post in here (edit: in Stack Exchange
) but the nice guy who helped me unfortunately could only answer the first part of my question.
Well... I will continue searching because I feel confident that LaTeX is superior to Word (which I dislike) once you get familiar with it.

Oh, posting at a different site is crossposting and is for almost all users a sign of impoliteness.
Simply making the crossposting open by providing clear links at the beginning, where you asked can solve the dilemma.
It is a quite a strange feeling if you take some time into answering a problem just to find out then minutes later that the same question was asked on a different site and was already answered.
Please add the accordings links.
