How do I shift the body of the document to the left? I believe, it would be like defining where the left margin starts.

Hi Aditya,

In the res.cls file you need to find the \oddsidemargin 0pt and \evensidemargin 0pt lines and make those values negative. This will reduce the margin on the left.
