I was a user of TeXmacs but its bugs while editing the same file opened in several windows prevent me to finish my book. I've asked them to fix the bug a few times but I don't know when the next release of TeXmacs will happen.
This inclines me to switch to LyX or to plain LaTeX.
The following results in $f$ visually intersecting with the angle parens while editing it in Lyx: $\langle f \rangle$. Are things like this a real hassle against using Lyx not LaTeX?
I realize that this is a holy war, but what else can you suggest me pro or against LyX vs plain LaTeX? My purpose it to re-type my 258 pages math research book and throughly edit it, accordingly my editing plan, before sending to a publisher. (TeXmacs has a (broken) LaTeX export, but I am unsure whether to use it or to re-type manually (as I also need to correct many things in my notation).)
