PDF Preview only generates a portion of content

Post by acemanhattan »

I have a document that contains, I'd say, what should come up as 3-4 pages when previewed as a pdf; when I use the preview feature, however, only 2 pages worth of content are generated. Any ideas about how to fix this?

Welcome to the forum!

I guess there is an error in the code. Look for error messages.

You can also post the .log file and the LaTeX export files here, as attachments to a post. We would examine those.

Thanks for the response.

I don't get any sort of error message when I export to pdf, things are just missing. I'm unable to find any sort of .log file, but I can post what I've written in the lyx environment if that would help, though there isn't any "code" to speak of, so I'm not sure what error I could be making.

(a) Since a party nominee for President must be concerned about the reaction of his/her constituents given a choice between public and private campaign financing, then this describes a game.

(b) It seems preferable to interpret Frugal Fred's scenario as a decision since it doesn't concern anyone else. However, if the person who gave Frugal Fred the gift card makes a value judgment about whether Fred made a wise decision in spending his gift money on only a single song vs a whole album, then Fred's action will be the catalyst for further actions by the gift giver; in this way we could classify it as a game.

(c) Bell must be concerned with the reaction of other individuals to her choice to respond or not respond to their loving advances; this is a game.

(d) This scenario describes interactions between mutually aware players; this is a game.

(e) This scenario describes interactions between America and China, mutually aware players; this is a game.

(a) (i) If the two salesmen make their sales in a vacuum (e.g. they go on their respective ways and reconvene after some set time and compare total sales), then I'd classify this as a simultaneous move game. However, if both salesmen are aware of the volume or type of sales being made by the other party, then they will be likely to respond accordingly, in which case it could also be classified as a sequential move game. (ii) This is not a zero sum game since one salesman's positive payoff doesn't come at the expense of the other salesman's negative payoff. (iii) This game may be repeated on a quarterly, yearly, etc. basis, but the description leads me to believe it is not a repeated game. (iv) It is easy to imagine scenarios where there is an asymmetry of information, but, without being creative, this appears to be a game of symmetrical & complete information. (v) The rules appear to be simple and fixed. (vi) There is nothing stopping the two salesmen from agreeing to, say, have salesman 1 make a single sale to salesman 2 while salesman 2 refuses to make any sales at all, then splitting the car. Thus, cooperative arrangements are possible.

(b) (i) Sequential moves. (ii) Positive payouts to one player aren't at the expense of negative payouts to another player; thus this is not zero sum. (iii) This game may be repeated round by round (if I remember the Price is Right correctly). (iv) This is a game of asymmetric information where the nth player has more information than the players preceding her. (v) The rules are fixed. (vi) If it is not possible for players to guess the same amount, then cooperation isn't possible, else cooperative arrangements can be made.

(c) (i) The game of poker is definitely sequential. (ii) In theory poker is a zero sum game, but it becomes a fixed sum game when you factor in the vig taken out by the casino. (iii) In the sense that 100's of 1000's of hands will be dealt, this is a repeated game. (iv) Players don't know what one another has so it is a game of incomplete information, it is also a game of asymmetrical information on a per hand basis (since players have positional advantages), however, theoretically, each player will be afforded the same access to asymmetrical information as the button passes around the table, so in that sense the game is not really asymmetrical. (v) The rules are fixed. (vi) WSOP rules don't allow for players to collude (cooperate) during the play of the hand, nor do they allow for “chop” agreements with respect to prize money; so in that sense, it is a strictly competitive game.

(d) (i) This is a simultaneous game. (ii) This is a fixed sum game. (iii) This is not a repeated game. (iv) The game seems to be one of symmetrical and complete information. (v) The rules are fixed. (vi) Cooperation seems impossible.

(a) The rollback outcome (2,1) corresponds to the equilibrium strategy of Albus choosing N and Minerva choosing b.

(b) The rollback outcome (3,3) corresponds to the equilibrium strategy of Albus choosing NN and Minerva choosing a.

(c) The rollback outcome (2,1,1) corresponds to the equilibrium of Albus choosing S.

Hi and welcome,

i am not a LyX user, so i can only help on the LaTeX side.
You can export your LyX document to LaTeX code, and post it here.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

Sure, LyX hides the code, so with the LaTeX export we would be able to see it.
