I have a regular page full of text and I don't want to change the text flow. I want to put an image
in the background, so that the text is simply written over it as if it was a blank page. Is it possible?

Inserting an image behind the text
Sure, you can use 
eso-pic for this. Alternatively, you could use TikZ, what can make positioning in relation to page dimensions easier, and also offers transparency. The background package uses TikZ and provides an interface for that purpose.
