Page Layout ⇒ Latex does not hyphenate at all

I have a document written in English, which Latex refuses to hyphenate, for unknown reasons. Interestingly, I have another document with exactly the same preamble, which is perfectly hyphenated. The preamble is given below.

I was trying to detect the problem and also to find a solution on the internet, but did not succeed. Perhaps the solution to the problem is trivial, but I am a Latex-beginner and cannot detect the problem for the moment. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

if the preamble is the same in both cases, the reason must be within the document


You can track the cause down by using a simple algorithm. You can read about it: How to create a minimal example

Many thanks for the advice. The problem turned out to be the use of \flushleft before the main text.
