Texmaker and TeXstudio ⇒ Chinese characters

I'm trying to type Chinese characters into the Texmaker editor, but I'm just getting these square blocks instead of Chinese characters. But the correct characters do appear on the pdf, once compiled. I have tried looking into the settings of the editor, but nothing seems to help.
