Lyx 2.0 in Win7: Path to pdf-file

Post by RolandR »

I am using Lyx 2.0.0 in Windows 7 with MikTeX 2.9. When I run Lyx in order to generate a pdf-file this file is generated in a newly generated subdirectory of the directory for temporary files. This subdirectory has a randomly composed name like e.g. nskC9CD.tmp\. Lyx uses the Acrobat Reader for previewing the pdf-file in this subdirectory.

I want to change two things:
  • How can I make Lyx create the pdf-file in the same directory where the original Lyx-file is residing ?

How can I change the previewing program ? Presently, it is the Acrobate Reader but I'd rather like to use GSview. The reason for this is that Acrobat jumps back to the beginning of the file each time, I make a new Lyx run, whereas GSview does not.
Thanks in advance

Lyx 2.0 in Win7: Path to pdf-file

You can change the PDF viewer by going to Tools>Preferences>File Handling>File Formats then look for the pulldown menu and text box next to "Viewer:" and in place of "auto" type the full path to the exe file for the pdf viewer you want to use, then click the Save button.

For making LyX create a non-temp file on output, you can try the solutions provided in this thread: https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions ... ame-folder. But just in case you didn't realize and have been hunting down the tmp files folder each time, as is, you can still hit Save As in the pdf viewer whenever you like once you're sure the version you've made today is really better than the one you made yesterday.

Thanks, I tried both of your advices. The results were not quite as I expected but came relatively close. Thus, I think I can live this way. More importantly, I got some ideas how to customize Lyx further, which is what I will try during the next weeks.
