Overwriting a file that is currently open

Post by nseagal »

I'm creating a file XXX.tex in WinEdt and I compile it to produce the XXX.pdf. I go back and forth regularly to change it and sometimes, before compiling I forget to close the XXX.pdf file. So, comes the error : I can't write on file "XXX.pdf", Please type another file name for output.
The thing is, last year WinEdt never gave me this error. It would just close the pdf by itself and compile and open it. I think I might have changed some settings. Could somebody help me figure out the setting that I have changed.

Thank you :)

The problem could be that you upgraded from Adobe Reader 7 to Adobe Reader 8. There were some changes in the available DDE commands that WinEdt uses to automatically close and reopen pdfs. I believe there are workarounds. Maybe you'll find some information about this on the winedt.com site.
