Hi!

Post by mike1264 »

The sun is shining, my book is almost finished, and I use Lyx / Latex. Life is good! So, I thought I'd drop by and say hello. I live in Liverpool, in the UK. We call it 'The Pool'. I am an author. I have published factual, historical books as well as novels (detective stuff mainly). I also write for the radio and television - drama. I first discovered Lyx/Latex some time ago. Then I was seduced by Adobe Indesign but, hey, we all make mistakes right?! My sojourn into the Adobe world was painful, and it led to a learning experience for yours truly. The lesson was simple: Don't publish anything unless it has been typeset properly. Which brings me to my link-up with Lyx/Latex. Now, I have no difficulties with typesetting and, my publishers are smiling. But, maybe that's more to do with the money they make out of a poor writer like me. Anyway, I really do like Lyx and I certainly like Latex. Together, they've made life a lot easier for me. So, that's a little about me. I hope we can become better acquainted. I am now learning Latex and hope, one day, to be able to write a whole document to the standard that Lyx offers me.
Bye for now,
Mike

Hi Mike,

welcome to the forum!

I had to learn the same lesson. I wrote a LaTeX book, but the publisher used Adobe Indesign. And he did it even in a poor way, embedding my PDF graphics as bitmaps in poor resolution. The contract with the publisher did not allow me to stop that after they did not listen to me.
