TeXnicCenter warning about file modification from outside

Post by niklz »

Hi there,
I'm a novice with LaTeX, and especially with the bibliography features. I'm using JabRef to generate a .bib file for me, and I wish to use the natbib package as the citation styles conform to my university regulations.

The TeX files run fine and my output is perferct, the problem is when I switch back to my editor (TeXnicCenter). A dialogue box says:

The file
c:\.........\project.bbl

has been modified outside TeXnicCenter. Should TeXnicCenter reload the document?

& this happens every time I compile(regardless of if I press Y/N), which is v. annoying!

I believe the problem stems from the .bib/.bbl files not being the right format for the package, however I can't find any information on this.

Can anyone help!?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

niklz

Since you don't need to edit this file you can just close it. It is overwritten every time you start a BibTeX run. Thus TeXnicCenter (TXC) gives a warning that the open file has been modified from outside.

Best regards and welcome to the board

thanks for the quick reply, and warm welcome :)

But how do I stop TXC giving me this dialogue each time?

Hi,

I have just the same problem. Would be nice if you could tell how you figured it out...

Well it took me a few hours but I figured it out. So if maybe someone else is having the same problem and is going to find this post as well, that's how I solved it.
It was a very stupid mistake: I just had to close the .bbl file in the editor. :)

Why do take the most stupid mistakes the longest time to solve? Well, I do understand why you did not mention how you solved it. ;)

But on the other hand I solved several other issues that I did find in this way as well...

So have fun everyone!
