Hi
How do I number within a chapter or a section more than just 1 object?
What I want is that there is no Definition 1.1. and Theorem 1.1. at the same time...
I'm using an AMS article class

welcome to the board!
Have a look at the amsthm documentation, that issue is explained in section 3 Numbering modifications. Just one additional parameter to \newtheorem is necessary.
