Auto line breaking
Sometimes, I find my documents contain lines where the last word is too long and extends beyond the right margin. Is there a way to get past this without having to manually enter a line break every time something like this occurs?

These are probably words where LaTeX doesn't know how to break them. There can be several reasons:
- the language settings for the document are wrong
- they are words in another language than the main document
- often they are words containing one or more explicit hyphen which means that LaTeX thinks it is only allowed to break the word at the hyphen; in these cases one can use babel's shorthands if they're available for the document language to use hyphens that allow breaking in the rest of the word, too, or use
\-
to insert an implicit hyphen - they are words containing a slash; this case is similar to the explicit hyphen case.
