General ⇒ remoce page number on title page

How can I get rid of the page number on the title page? Consider the example:

\pagestyle{empty}
\title{Blah\pagestyle{empty}}

\begin{document}

\pagestyle{empty}
\maketitle
\pagestyle{empty}
Blah-blah
\pagestyle{empty}

\end{document}

The page number just sits there, unless I remove '\maketitle'.

Use the titlepage option for article. With this option an additional environment is provided.

\documentclass[12pt,a4paper,titlepage]{article}
\usepackage{blindtext}

\begin{document}
  \begin{titlepage}
    ...
  \end{titlepage}
  \blinddocument
\end{document}

You can put what ever you want into the titlepage environment. The data for \title, \author and \date can be omitted because these commands are not used any more.
