Annoying extra lines.

Post by lyxrocks »

how do i let Lyx show extra lines?

i want to delete all the extra lines but it is very easy to miss one of those!

minimal example attached: the lines between the displayed formula and the preceding and following lines, how do i let Lyx point them out to me?

This looks strange to me. How did you create that MWE? I cannot recreate it. I understand what you would like to have, but I don't think that LyX has a way to do that because it does not expect extra lines because normally it does not allow you to input them.

i sometimes accidentally press the enter key when i want to make a formula a display formula. this results an extra line between the text and the formula.

so instead of

Code: Select all

text
centered display formula
it becomes

Code: Select all

text
annoying extra line
centered display formula
similarly for the extra line after the formula.

I cannot reproduce that. I do the following:
1. enter "a"
2. press return
3. start a math display with ctrl+shift+m
4. enter "a" (or alpha or whatever)
5. press escape or press the right arrow.
6. press return
7. enter "a".

Note that at steps 2 and 6, pressing return additional times does nothing for me

if you change the "separate paragraphs with" under "text layout" under "settings" under "document" from indentation to vertical space, then the MWE can be reproduced.

Yes, now I can reproduce it. Is that supposed to happen? This seems like a bug to me. Is there some reason why the extra lines should be allowed when that option is enabled?

yes, i do feel that it is a bug of some sort, it seems that lyx doesn't allow extra space/lines otherwise.

OK, thanks. I will look into this. Sorry that we couldn't get your original question addressed. Although if we get this fixed maybe that will do it.
