Are there any business solutions utilizing LaTeX in a manner like e.g. Crystal Reports is used to layout business letters, bills, reminder notices and other things also connected with databases?

Perhaps the TeX Catalgue offers some helpful classes and packages.
To connect LaTeX to e.g. a MySQL database you will need something like LaTeXDB.

Sounds like a thing one could utilize for some plugin to several CRM and have nice layouted material afterwards. Just wondering why that aint realized already...
When remembering the horror of clickjacking with Crystal Reports that seems to be quite nice to my commandline affine eyes :D

LuaTeX can be used for this. For example, you could use LuaSQL to connect to a database. There's a business application for producing documents such as catalogues from databases via (Lua)LaTeX, the speedata Publisher.
