Print a .lyx file

Post by rahul24 »

Is there a way to print the .lyx file as it appears onscreen in lyx? I thought this could be done using file>print but unfortunately there is an empty printer field and it seems to be made to directly print a ps/pdf output to a printer, not the onscreen content. I want to do this to print out lyx comments as well as edit my text on paper.

I am not looking to print the pretty ps/pdf/dvi!!!

Thanks in advance,
Rahul

Hi Rahul,

Welcome!

Not that I know of, except with screen shots.

To print your LyX comments,
1. First convert them to greyed out insets by pressing alt-x (or View > Toolbars > Command Buffer) and inserting the following
inset-forall Note inset-modify note Note Greyedout
Press return.

2. Go to Document > Settings > Colors
and you can change the color, if you want, of the greyed out boxes by clicking on "Change" next to the text "Greyed-out notes".

3. Then export to pdf.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your answers - here and on another thread.

It is a little disappointing to note that this printing is not possible. It would be a great feature to have for editing ideas while entering them in lyx (Perhaps I am old school and still prefer the paper and pencil way of thinking!).

But thanks for the work around...

Cheers,
Rahul

Rahul, you are not alone! You might want to open a feature request (it doesn't take long) by going here: http://www.lyx.org/trac. You could also reference this comment:
http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/6747#comment:14
which agrees with what you have in mind.
But don't just add on to that ticket; this is a separate issue.
