Math & Science ⇒ problem with too long bar at value

Hi guys,

I have the following situation i have a formula which is a fraction of a detrminant with something simplier in the denominator. I want to use this expression at the point z. So my latex guess is something like that

\left.\frac{ \det\begin{pmatrix}               a & b\\ c&d
                                                    \end{pmatrix}
}{e} \right|_{z}

you see that the \right| is too long and looks ugly. Any clue how can one make it shorter without retrictiong it just to the numerator or denominator?
