General ⇒ ! Emergency Stop. On font selection

Dear LaTeX Community,

I am using Mac OS X 10.8 with the MacTeX 2012 distribution. I also use LyX, so there is no "real" example file I could give. The error message from the .log file is:

It seems that a siunitx truetype font cannot be found (?). Also, I am using the palatino font:

It also happens with:

When I run the file in TeXworks or from the command line, it just hangs after the line(s):

I am new to the MacTeX distribution. The same file works well under MiKTeX...

To sum up, I am at a loss and would appreciate any hints or nudges.
