Increasing the top margin

Post by Dr_Corndog »

I've been scouring the internet for a way to increase the top margin on a page that actually, y'know, works. I've tried both \addtolength and \vspace, but in each case it adds something 1 1/2 inches when I tell it to add 1. I've set all my page margins to 1 inch with the geometry package (which works perfectly), but on any page where I try to increase the top margin I get 2 1/2 inch margins instead of 2.

Moreover, the \addtolength command causes the page numbers at the bottom to disappear on any page where it's used.

Section 7 of the geometry manual shows how to alter the page geometry within a document.
