Greetings!

Hello everyone,

I have neglected to introduce myself, for which I apologise. A bit of an attention to detail failure there

I'm Rob and I'm studying for a masters in Archives Administration in the UK. I've been using Lyx for sometime to produce my assignments, but am now looking to do more advanced things with the programme in order to produce my dissertation. Who knows, maybe I'll end up learning a little Latex too.

Hi Rob,

welcome to the board!

For a big project such as a dissertation I guess I would prefer LaTeX, though LyX should be capable.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the LaTeX community!

LaTeX is quite capable for writing a big document like a dissertation. Even when using LyX it can't harm to learn some LaTeX, too :)

Thank you for the warm welcomes. At the moment I'm struggling with Lyx (though I'm beginning to think my problems may not be with Lyx itself), so I'm keeping the option open of learning Latex. There might be a higher initial learning curve, but I wonder if troubleshooting problems may be easier in the long term.
