Texmaker and TeXstudio ⇒ BibTeX Compilation fails

Hi all,

I am recently unable to compile Bibtex in Texmaker (I run Windows 7 x64).
I am given the error

I couldn't open file name 'file.aux'

when I try to compile file.bib (the name "file" is not the real file name). I am able to compile on my laptop just fine, as well as in sublime on the problematic computer.

What could be causing this? I have tried re-installing TeXmaker, but no luck.

Hi,

welcome to the board!

Check if file.aux exists. Some editors can be configured to automatically remove the .aux file after compilation.

Thank you for the reply! Good to be here

file.aux does not actually exist. At the moment, I am able to compile by pressing F11 and then F1 when editing my filename.tex document (with file.bib open in a separate tab in Texmaker).

This seems to work great, although I used to be able to press F11 when looking at file.bib and have it compile.
