Fonts & Character Sets ⇒ Identification of a Font

The attachment is a scan from the book "Arithmetic Geometry", edited by Cornell & Silverman. When I first got this book, I was immediately fascinated at the font. This is by far the best font I ever saw in a math book. I went thru every font in Hartke's article A Survey of Free Math Fonts, but could not find this font. Times is close, but nevertheless it is not. Could anybody tell me what font is used in that page, any simple way to use it in LaTeX? Many thanks in advance.

I have been asking this question for years, and no one has been able to answer it for me.

I agree. This set of fonts is the most beautiful seen in typeset, in my opinion. It appears in many books which were published throughout the 1970's and 1980's. This set of math fonts is usually typeset with Times as the text font. Particularly, you'll see these math fonts in Rudin's Real and Complex Analysis, and Functional Analysis. Also, you'll see this in Fleming's Functions of Several Variables, 2nd Edition, as well as in Bachman & Narici's Functional Analysis, and in Lang's Real and Functional Analysis. Also, you'll find this in many of the books in the Wadsworth & Brooks/Cole Mathematics Series, including the three volumes of Gunning's Introduction to Holomorphic Functions of Several Variables and in Fisher's Complex Variables, 2nd Edition. There are many many more examples.

In the survey of free math fonts, the closest set of math characters is the Fourier/Fourier-GUTenberg.

Still, it's not what we are looking for.

NOW, the most recent book I know of with these fonts is
Berkovitz's Convexity and Optimization in R^n.

Usually you can find out the used fonts by looking at the document properties in your PDF viewer.

I was able to spot the linked PDF via search engine. On my system I got the below list of embedded fonts.

Dear localghost,

I appreciate your reply. At least it gives some direction, but the problem still remains.

• ATTorinoOpen is the source for the weird double-struck R (as in R^n) in the pdf file.
• MathPackOne through MathPackEleven, and MathPackExOne/Two/Three/Seven --- I have searched and found absolutely no information or documentation regarding these fonts.
• TimesMath ----- I have not been able to find any documentation or information for this font either. I'm pretty sure that this is not the TM Math font from Micropress.

What I'm looking for is the source for these nice SUM/INTEGRAL/UNION/INTERSECTION operators, and how to implement the font set into my MiKTeX system. I am confident that what I'm looking for is either in the MathPacks or the TimesMath (those which I couldn't find any information about).

Please, is there anyone out there who has any knowledge of this or any helpful information?

The trailing question marks and exclamation marks do not indicate a "yelling" tone, but are simply part of a bad habit. Thanks for pointing that out, although your response was rather crude and unhelpful.
