Producing editable PDF Files for Adobe

Post by telewatho »

Hi, I thought this was the best forum to ask this post so I will do so.

I've been using LyX for some time, and I was wondering if it is possible to produce "editable" PDF files using LyX / PDFLaTeX / any other Linux tools?

And if not, if it will ever become possible?

To the best of my knowledge, Adobe editable PDF files:
  • Can be edited and commented on in Adobe Acrobat (providing only the Arial, Courier, Times New Roman and Helvetica fonts are used)
  • Contain fully selectable, searchable and copyable text
  • Allow the copying of text *without* line breaks (when a line of text is broken over multiple lines in the PDF)
The key reason I am asking is because I want to produce PDFs where I can copy the text without line breaks in it using Evince.

Cheers!

Heyho!

I'm pretty sure this will not come into place any time soon.
  1. The fonts you mentioned are not implemented into LyX.
  2. You can do this easily by editing the LyX file and redoing the PDF file.
Hope this helped you!

Dear Hinzig, thanks for your info :) ! (although it is sad that one must buy Adobe Acrobat to achieve this functionality)

Aside: If anyone else is reading this and is struggling with getting text to be selectable at all in PDFs outputted by Lyx, change your fonts in "Document Settings" to the ones I mentioned in my previous post.

Cheers!
