Text Formatting ⇒ Custom Hyphenation Character

I can't remember having seen it, but I think I might heard of using a double hyphen (similar to =) when the word is already hyphenated at the break point. Does anyone know if that occurs? And if so, can it be done in (Xe)LaTeX?
