Collaboration with a non-LyX user on a LyX Document

Post by gatorbrit »

My coauthors use Word primarily. I was wondering how others collaborated with non-LyX users when working on a coauthored paper. For example, for reviewing and commenting.

Obvious solutions - mark up PDF, write on hard copy and scan, export to some other format and import to Word.

But I'd be interested to hear what people use.

Thanks

I would like to hear any good ideas, too. Pandoc export to .docx is problematic, at least for me, because the inline \foreignlanguage bits are not rendered in the output (I filed a pandoc bug report). Also, citations are lost.

Hi,

you could use the word2lyx converter, at least for one way.

In general, I would use RTF as interchange format, both LyX and Word and also OpenOffice can read it. Perhaps consider using OpenOffice or LibreOffice for collaboration, and LyX for the final output if you plan to deliver a PDF file. If it has to be Word at the end, consider using OpenOffice/LibreOffice, as you won't really benefit from LyX capabilities being restricted to Word.

Thanks for your help. I am now considering trying to convince my professor that typing annotations on a pretty-looking PDF isn't all bad ;)
Also, the bug report I filed for pandoc was immediately taken up, and the next version will, it appears, no longer have the \foreignlanguage bug.
