Modifications to Document Class

Post by Bobbias »

Complete noob here. Not sure if this goes here.

I'm working with LyX, and I've never really done any customization before. Everything I wrote was just for myself and used the basic article format.

I'm looking to modify the APA format so I can use it for some college assignments for different classes. Most of the time our assignments don't strictly follow every APA rule so I'm trying to customize things to how I'd normally submit my assignments.

I've created a second .layout file that's basically just a copy of the default APA file so I can experiment myself. The first thing I want to do is get rid of the "Running Head: TITLE HERE" that it throws up on the title page.

The next thing I'd like to be able to do is remove the title page entirely for some documents, leaving the title at the top of the page.

I'd just jump in and start messing with files myself, but I can't find any good documentation on how to do this sort of thing.

Edit:
For now I am setting up a temporary system for writing my labs in TeXworks and doing basically everything by hand, but the reason I liked LyX in the first place is because it meant I didn't have to write every piece of LaTeX markup, so that's still my goal. I'm just doing this because I have a feeling it'll be a while before I can get proper LyX layouts made up.
