No, wait, you're telling me such a sofisticated language as LaTeX does not provide for case-based if-then alternatives. Hell, even QuickBasic does!

I only said that I am not aware of such a solution. And at the moment I have not the slightest idea of an approach. Do you have the same problem when using PDFLaTeX with babel?

Of course not, but I desperately need polyglossia because babel is not Unicode-compatible.

Again, aren't there if-based structures in LaTeX. Like if \fg is followed by colon/semicolon/int. mark/excl. mark, then add an unbreakable space after \fg. Too beautiful to be true? I hope not!

I think it would need to go down to low level LaTeX or even TeX itself. And my knowledge of TeX is still very limited.

That polytonic greek is a mess with babel, so I'm stuck with polyglossia.
