Hello to the Community and LaTeX!

Post by rgrice »

Hi,

I'm currently working at an information service provider and we are building replacement systems to generate PDFs dynamically from XML content using Java/XOM and XQuery/XPath. I've been thrust into the world of LaTeX by the sudden resignation of a colleague with no prior experience of LaTeX. It was like jumping into a very cold swimming pool ... a real shock and six months later, I would still only say that I've mastered just the basics. I'm still frustrated by a lack of in-depth knowledge and experience of LaTeX. It seems it isn't like usual programming languages where you can start with the basics and quickly learn how to build software. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking LaTeX, it's very powerful and good at what it does. But I'd like to gain more experience to see what it is really capable of. I hope to be able to post you my questions and gain insight into how I can use LaTeX to make good robust PDF creation systems ...

Although we don't have much experience here with dynamic creation of LaTeX sources from other programming languages, we are looking forward to your contributions.
