I would like to make all section headings (e.g., Abstract, Introduction, Table of Content, List of Tables, Chapter 1, etc) have the same format (e.g., font size, font type, space from top of the page to the heading and spaces from the heading to the body text).

I post a sample of my disseration so that you can help me better.

There are several problems with the sample:

1. The heading space: Please look at the header of Table of Content, Abstract, Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter
2. They have different spacing from the top of the page to the heading and from the heading to the body text. Please pay particular attention of the heading of chaper 2 and chapter 3. They have different spacing from the "CHAPTER #" to the title of the chapter and from the title of the chapter to the "Introduction". I would like all the heading to have the same spacing.
3. In the table of content, chapter 2 have single spacing while chapter 3 have double spacing.
4. In chapter 3, the spacing between the first and second paragraph is double. I have this problems happend throughout my dissertation. Sometime it happened between paragraphs, sometime it appears between lines.
5. I would like the "Chapter" in the table of content removed. Please help me with that.
6. In my LoT and LoF, after each chapter, the space between 2 lines is double. How can I make it single-space?

Hi minute,

Your example induces me to think that the problem is introduced by the package sw20utah. It is probably making different page settings for Table of Content, Abstract ... I know that because I had to do the same to my dissertation.
But in fact this is only a speculation. In order to help you better and get the hands dirt into the code you have to post a minimal working example (http://latex-community.org/forum/viewto ... =47&t=5838 see 2.2) so I can generate the pdf file. The example you posted requires the file "sw20utah.sty" which modifies the way the book class behaves. The same in valid for the other files introduced by \input.

Thanks very much for your reply. Actually, I am using scientific word with the Utah university thesis shell.

My file is a tex file but I do not know how to remove the sw20utah.sty requirement. Could you please help me with that.
