problem mgs.exe

Post by Bennn »

Hi

Miktex is suddenly giving me problems when I try and compile from DVI to PDF. The windows error appears with "mgs.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close".

As soon as it closes a whole lot of errors come up on latex starting with "Can't begin an annotation when one is pending"

It worked fine earlier so I tried to undo all the changes I had made but this didn't help. I then installed the latest version of Miktex but this didn't help either. It seems that for some reason windows is clashing with Miktex :?:

Hi Bennn,

perhaps you could install just a new version of mgs.exe.
Try updating the package miktex-ghostscript-bin using the MiKTeX package manager. It contains msg.exe. I've seen one mgs.exe with date 4. Sep 2007 if you want to compare dates of the file.

Re: problem mgs.exe - figure too big

Post by Bennn »

Hi Stephan,
Thanks. I updated Miktex which speeded up Miktex's compiling a lot but did not solve my problem.

I then broke down my document and found the problem. One eps figure seemed to be too big for the DVI to PDF conversion. Even though it worked with the DVI compilation. Once I had made it smaller the conversion worked and the windows error that said "msgs.exe needs to close" didn't appear any more.
