Citation Number

Post by hbaromega »

How can I get the citation number only instead of citation index that comes along the place where I use the \cite command?

For example,

You can look at the book Brief History of Time~\cite{hawking}.

This may appear after compilation with bibliography (say, it's the 6th reference in the bibliography list) as

You can look at the book Brief History of Time[6].

But I want to write like the following.

You can look at Ref. 6.

But if use \cite here as

You can look at Ref.~\cite{hawking},

I get

You can look at Ref. [6]

But I don't want [ ] in addition, I want the reference number only, i.e. 6 to appear in our example.

Hope I could make it clear. Thanks.

Try this in the preamble of your document.

Code: Select all

\makeatletter
\def\@cite#1#2{{#1\if@tempswa , #2\fi}}
\makeatother

Thank you very much.

I found \citenum works as well. Didn't know that before.
