configuring spell checker

Post by omkardpd »

Hello,

I am having real hard time in getting spell checker working. I guess I am not configuring it correctly. But I don't know where I am going wrong. The problem is, the system does not understand which words are misspelled and if there is any word that is misspelled then correctly highlighting it.

I am using Texmaker 1.6 (is this the latest version or is there any higher version of it?) and I am using the link http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/doc.html for configuring the system. I have downloaded aspell from http://aspell.net/win32/ . The instruction page says, "To configure the spell checker : "Configure Texmaker" -> "Editor" -> "Spelling dictionary" -> click on the button at the end of the line to select the dictionary with the file browser." But I did not see anywhere Spelling dictionary on this path. So I am not sure if I have installed Aspell. Please find the attached editor window also.

From the same link I have downloaded English dictionary by Kevin Atkinson. (I assume that's the one I need. If not then which one?) When I try to install it, I am getting a dos prompt. I am not sure if I can go further in this prompt window. Please find attached prompt window.

Can someone help me in understanding this prompt window and installing the dictionary so that when I give "Spell Check" command, the system does it, and not give me "No spelling mistake" message when I can actually see mistakes myself?

Thank you,

Omkar

configuring spell checker

Hi Omkar,

the latest version of TeXmaker is 1.7.1 (May 2 2008). With version 1.7 the spelling has changed, now it's using Hunspell, the default spell checker of OpenOffice and Firefox 3. Hunspell uses OpenOffice dictionaries.
Because the spelling is different now an update could solve your spelling problems.

This is fantastic. Just one click, and all set. Thank you very much Stefan.

Just confirming. I downloaded Texmaker 1.7 for windows system, and en_US dictionary from http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries. Then following the instructions for configuring texmaker and spell checker, looks like it is working fine.

Thanks once again.

Is it possible for texmaker to make spell checking on the fly? I mean, as you are typing, if you enter a bad word it will underline it or something as in MS Word or similar?

I don't think it's possible. But not sure though.

Hi,

I try to download the en_US dictionary for TeXmaker from http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries.
But it give me an error and I can not download it. I need the dictionary. So I would like to ask please upload the dictionary in other site and post the link here.

Best Regards,
Mohammad
